They defeated Alexander Bublik and Aleksander Nedovyesov from Kazakhstan by 2 sets to 0 (double 6/4), in one hour and 14 minutes of play. The Brazilians will now face the winners of the match between the Americans Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, seeded 4th in the tournament, and the Australians Alex de Minaur and Alexei Popyrin in the round of 16. It was the first win for both players at the Olympics. Monteiro competed at the Tokyo Games in 2021 but was eliminated in the first round. Wild, a first-time Olympian, also lost in his debut in Paris.
Another triumph for Brazil in Paris on Monday took place in table tennis. Vitor Ishiy, ranked 85th in the world, achieved an important victory in his singles debut at the Paris Games. He defeated the Australian Nicholas Lum, ranked 38th in the world, by 4 sets to 0 (11/7, 11/5, 11/7, and 11/6). “I think I managed to impose my game a lot,” said the Brazilian. “He had difficulty receiving my serve, which gave me confidence throughout the match,” Ishiy added. He will face the German Dimitrij Ovtcharov, ranked 14th, in the round of 16. The German was the silver medalist at the Tokyo Games in 2021. “I just hope to do my best, and we’ll see the result. I know it will be very difficult,” said the Brazilian.
