Pedro Maia Honored with the 2 de Julho Medal – Libertadores da Bahia
The Attorney General of Bahia, Pedro Maia, was one of the honorees with the 2 de Julho Medal – Libertadores da Bahia, as a Commander. The head of the State Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP-BA) received the honor from Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues (PT) at a ceremony held on Tuesday night (16) at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bahia (MAC) in the Graça neighborhood of Salvador.
The tribute was bestowed upon Maia for his “remarkable contribution to the guarantee of public freedoms and the affirmation of national sovereignty”.
Jerônimo emphasized in his speech that the medal is intended for individuals who “have a mission with the people of Bahia”. “Today we are here to honor those who fight for freedom, not only the freedom of the oppressed against oppressors, but also the freedom of education, social development, the freedom of having a meal on the table. Here today, we see men and women committed to this cause, who want to build a more autonomous Bahia,” he said.
The award was established by Law 11.902/2010, in honor of the consolidation of Brazil’s Independence in Bahia.
