Lindbergh Farias, a federal deputy and leader of the PT party in the Chamber, has taken legal action against Marcel Van Hattem from Novo-RS. Van Hattem accused the Supreme Federal Court of being a criminal organization, targeting Alexandre de Moraes and former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) after Lula became a defendant in a coup attempt case.
Farias claims that Van Hattem’s statements go beyond freedom of speech and parliamentary immunity, as they attack democratic institutions. The PT leader is seeking criminal charges against Deputy Marcel Van Hattem, as well as civil and administrative measures.
“Attacking and attempting to intimidate Supreme Court justices and the Judiciary, labeling them as ‘mafiosos (criminals), cowards, extortionists,’ constitutes criminal and offensive behavior that must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he wrote.
