Iza reassumes the role of queen of the Imperatriz Leopoldinense drum section

After a three-year hiatus from the Sapucaí Carnival, singer Iza announced her return to the position of drum queen of the Imperatriz Leopoldinense samba school.

“After some time away physically, it’s time to come back. I return more mature, experienced, and now, a mother. I can only thank President Catia Drumond and Vice President João Felipe Drumond for their trust and opportunity. Let a new and beautiful cycle begin. Thank you, Queen of Ramos,” the singer said in a video posted on Instagram.

Iza takes over from Maria Mariá, who led the school’s drum section during the singer’s absence from the sambadrome Carnival. Maria was part of the passistas wing and was born in the Complexo do Alemão. She steps down from the position but remains affiliated with the association.

On social media, the school celebrated the singer’s return to the role. “We are very joyful to welcome back this artist of great representativeness and inspiration for many other girls from our community who dream of reaching where she has arrived. Having Iza, a product of the Zona da Leopoldina, back as queen of the Imperatriz is the certainty of continuing a beautiful legacy,” said President Catia Drumond.
